Citing study, education task force recommends creation of single countywide school district

According to the Berkshire County Education Task Force, the county’s overall education woes – declining enrollment, financial struggles and stumbling quality of education – can be resolved by creating a single countywide school district.

More specifically, the task force recommends the county’s 32 communities, and total 15,000 school-aged children, come together by 2027 in an effort to pool resources, streamline expenditures and increase savings.

The recommendation, however, is strictly “aspirational,” according to BCETF Chairman John Hockridge and several other task force members.
