The incumbent Berkshire county district attorney, Paul Caccaviello, announced last week that he will seek to defeat Andrea Harrington in a write-in campaign this November. Harrington defeated Caccaviello and Judith Knight in the September Democratic primary earlier this month. Harrington defeated Caccaviello by three percentage points on the September 4 primary. Caccavielllo, however, is determined to stay in the race.
“For an office where it is imperative that it remain non political and committed to public safety, community well being and victims in particular, there has been such a groundswell of support and urging by residents to continue as a write in candidate,” said Caccaviello, regarding his decision to continue his campaign. “That support and urging came from residents-regardless of any political designation-who for whatever reason did not weigh in on primary day and they want the opportunity to do just that,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude for the effort his supporter have provided. “Given that support which has been humbling and compelling, the narrowness of the results and that I believe it is the right thing to do for the right reasons,” Caccaviello said. He continued, “I have dedicated my entire professional career to public service here in Berkshire County and believe my near 30 years of experience makes me the best choice to answer this call.”
“My philosophy on prosecution is that you can have and show compassion where it is appropriate and a consequence when it’s needed and that there should be accountability,” he said in a video from his campaign’s Facebook page.
