Developers detail plans for Manville mixed-use project

GREAT BARRINGTON — A new mixed-use development at 21 – 28 Manville Street is set to bring another 47 apartment units, a commercial storefront and a walkable landscaped courtyard into town, but some of their neighbors to-be are concerned about extra traffic and disruption.

The development consists of three buildings and 2.15 acres of land. The plans include at least 50 parking spaces for residents. Developer Ian Rasch said he imagined the commercial space would come to be a service geared toward local residents such as a coffee shop, gym, yoga studio or similar business.

To the north of the development is Construct, Inc., and Mahaiwe Street. To the south is the Big Y, Ward’s Nursery, Bizalion’s Cafe-Market, and Great Barrington Bagel Company.

Eleven of the 20 surrounding properties are used as multi-family housing, office space or retail locations, which the developers said makes for a diverse neighborhood of uses.
