SPRINGFIELD — “Our goal at the beginning of the season was to win Western Mass. and anything after that would be gravy,” said Lee Wildcats head coach Norma Comalli after her team lost their first match of the season 5-0 in the state semifinals.
Despite being swept by Central Mass. Champion Hopedale, the match was a lot closer than the final score indicated.
Surianna Lee went to a third set tie-breaker with Katelyn Brunt in third singles and Cindy Ni and Caroline Maloney also went to a third set tie-break with Mikayla Evans and Rachel Szemethy in second doubles.
“It was a great match really. It could have gone either way with third singles and second doubles, it was tight,” said Comalli.
