Lee approves marijuana bylaws; Main Street will remain pot-free

By Cory Willey

LEE — The town is now ready to take on the burgeoning recreational marijuana industry with fresh amendments to its bylaws and the early repeal of its moratorium on such establishments.

Main Street, however, will remain free of marijuana sales.

On May 10, town representatives gathered in Lee Middle and High School’s auditorium to vote on the annual town meeting warrant, approving 28 articles and taking no action on one.

Compromise was the theme of the meeting.

While many disagreed on where recreational marijuana establishments should be permitted to operate, everyone agreed the town must pass these bylaws in order to ensure some sort of local control over this new industry.
