O’Brien trucking business gets restrictions from Barrington ZBA

By Christopher McDermott

GREAT BARRINGTON— Following months of residents’ complaints about an “industrial siege” on their neighborhood, the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals issud new restrictions on Gary O’Brien’s trucking businesses at 11 Roger Road to take effect in mid June.

O’Brien’s business will be limited to 6 large trucks (up to 33,000 pounds unladen) and 6 smaller trucks (up to 25,000 pounds unladen) excluding personal vehicles (like pickup trucks). The trucks and equipment can only operate from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, no trucks are allowed to idle on the property for longer than 15 minutes, no trucks with flashing lights can be utilized on the property and use of compression brakes (also called “Jake brakes”) is forbidden in the area.

The trucking business will also be required to make weekly repairs to Roger Road, with the necessary permissions of the board of selectmen, and also insure the road with the town as the insured party.
