EGREMONT — Ninety or so voters approved every article on the Annual Town Meeting warrant Tuesday night, including the approval of the Southern Berkshire Regional School District’s budget and the borrowing of $535,000 to be put towards the design of the $9.3-million Mount Washington Road repair project.
Among the 23-article warrant, Egremont residents also approved the appropriation of funds for the town’s $2.6- million operating budget, the purchase of a new $200,000 rescue vehicle for the fire department—via secret ballot—as well as the purchase of a brand new law enforcement vehicle valued at $43,000.
As is true with most rural towns, the school district’s fiscal year 2019 budget made up a large portion of the town’s budget. The Southern Berkshire Regional School District’s total FY19 budget came in at $16.7 million, a 1.98% increase over last year. As one of the five towns in the district, Egremont has been assessed a $1.6-million portion of the budget.
