Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito paid a visit to several South County towns on Tuesday to discuss a number of topics, including broadband, infrastructure, education and emergency services.

In Egremont, Polito was accompanied by state Sen. Adam Hinds, D-Pittsfield. Broadband was the dominant topic of Polito’s 45-minute visit.

The town and its technology committee has been working for well over a decade to bring high-speed broadband coverage to its residents. While it has made significant progress over the past year in negotiations with Charter Communications, its momentum has recently come to a halt. The town is currently close to signing a cable license agreement with Charter to bring broadband service to Egremont. A few issues —namely coverage for 100 percent of the homes and businesses in town – are the cause of the stop in negotiations.
