Spartans win first alpine ski race of the season

Carly Terranova’s second place finish helped the Monument Mountain Spartans take a win in the first race of the season

PITTSFIELD – On a perfect night for skiing, where race time temperatures were around 28 degrees Fahrenheit, Carly Terranova helped lead the Monument Mountain Spartans to a week one race win.

“I didn’t even know that so that is absolutely fantastic and makes me so happy,” said a surprised Terranova following the race.

Terranova finished second overall with a time of 51.26, just over two seconds off of Abby Kate Caproni of Lenox who finished first overall with a time of 49.04. Terranova also just beat out Molly Knight of Lenox by .37 hundredths of a second for third place. Knight also staved off Adelaid McFarland of Monument by just one hundredth of a second putting McFarland in fourth place overall.

Despite the two top three finishes for the Millionaires, it was not enough to overcome the Spartans who had four top 10 finishes to Lenox’s three. The Spartans beat the Millionaires by six seconds for the combined time score for the first place team finish.
