SHEFFIELD — Junior, Jake Corcoran scored a hat trick Saturday afternoon as he helped lift the Mt. Everett Eagles to their first win of the season in a 5-1 victory over the Shepaug (Conn.) Spartans at the Berkshire School.
“It feels great! The effort was there for all three periods, which was great this afternoon and I’m happy with how everybody played on the team,” said Eagles head coach Aidan Gilligan.
The Eagles (1-1) dominated the Spartans from the opening drop puck a stark contrast from their opening game, a 7-3 defeat to Belchertown the night before at the Mullins Center in Amherst.
“I think it was the whole team that kind of came out flat [Friday] whereas today we made it a point of emphasis to go out in warm ups, get that heart rate up a little bit and settle those nerves on it’s own and be ready to focus from the very first shift and as soon as you step on to the ice for warm ups, the entire team had a much better attitude going into the game, coaches included,” explained Gilligan. “We were more ready to play today which was good to see and you could really see it from the very first shift.”
