SHEFFIELD — The Southern Berkshire Regional School District school committee has set upon a path to review the district’s regional agreement.
The committee’s unanimous vote took place during its regularly scheduled Nov. 9 meeting, establishing a subcommittee – titled the Regional Agreement Review committee – tasked with reviewing the district’s establishing document. Art Batacchi, Robert Law and Carl Stewart volunteered to serve on the newly formed committee.
The vote was set into motion by Batacchi, who serves as the chairman of the Buildings, Grounds and Technology subcommittee. The impetus behind the motion, Batacchi explained, is the lack of clarity within the regional agreement regarding costs to repair school buildings in the district. With repair projects to schools looming, it is something that must be addressed.
“I just feel we need to start looking at the district agreement, maybe in pieces, not the whole thing at one time but I think it is something that hasn’t been done in a while and I think it is something that needs to be looked at,” Batacchi said.
