Sites in Lee and Pittsfield are among the 26 locations in Massachusetts hoping to host Amazon’s much sought after second North American headquarters.
The online shopping giant expects to invest $5 billion and bring nearly 50,000 high-paying jobs to the site of its second headquarters, which it is calling HQ2, according to a release announcing the search.
Gov. Charlie Baker’s administration compiled and submitted a 186-page proposal to Amazon ahead of the Oct. 19 deadline, pitching 26 sites across the state for the headquarters. The proposal reads as more of a general endorsement of the state rather than a backing of any particular site.
The Baker administration hopes Massachusetts will stand out among the crowd due to the state’s renowned educational institutions and educated workforce.
