Spectrum says fiber is best for Egremont and Monterey

EGREMONT — In a surprising about-face, Spectrum has decided to build its high-speed network in town, and in Monterey, using fiber cable, ultimately ditching initial plans to use a hybrid fiber-coaxial network.

Word came via an Oct. 5 email from Spectrum Director of Government Affairs Anna Lucey addressed to Selectwoman Mary Brazie .

“While were were originally planning to build a hybrid fiber coax system as discussed in our proposal to your town and [Massachusetts Broadband Institute], we determined after walk out and initial design that under these circumstances building an all-fiber system is a more efficient and economically feasible approach,” the email reads.
