New Bridge Street development gets green light from selectmen

The proposed Powerhouse Square development

GREAT BARRINGTON — A development project that could change the complexion of downtown cleared a major hurdle as the Select Board granted the company behind the so-called Powerhouse project a special permit.

The board’s decision last week to grant the permit for the $15-million mixed-use development on Bridge Street was unanimous, but it came with an extensive list of conditions.

The project at 34 and 42 Bridge Street, which includes the demolition of both the former Laramee’s cleaners building and the building currently housing the Berkshire Co-op Market, will feature not only the Co-op’s new headquarters but residential units above it.
