Berkshire Hills cuts $100,000 to get Barrington increase under 6%

Monument Valley Middle School was spared cuts.

GREAT BARRINGTON — In advance of its budget vote slated for Thursday, March 9, the Berkshire Hills Regional School Committee has opted to present a spending plan about $100,000 less than originally proposed.

The near unanimous decision was made at a sparsely attended public hearing March 2 after an hour of deliberation. When the committee first presented its draft budget Feb.16, no cuts were suggested but at a subsequent meeting of its Finance Subcommittee, it was suggested that the subcommittee try cutting $200,000 from the original proposed $24.5 million operating budget, which featured a 6.5 percent increase for Great Barrington.
